from the city: hello!

We stayed on the 41st floor in the heart of the city. On Tuesday morning we rose early and headed to the airport, anxious and eager, checking the arrivals board every few minutes. We took a walk to waste some time and watched one helium balloon float aimlessly on the ceiling.

And then we spotted a familiar beaming face behind a trolley stacked high with luggage. Hello! Uncle Josh and Immy were here, safe and sound. We spent the rest of the day wandering the city and while she tried, Immy couldn’t quite believe that she was experiencing Sydney in the winter-time.

That photo of Poet and Popa up there…see her little hat? It was the very first thing I bought her after she was born, an ada ada bonnet from the spring/summer 2010 collection. Absolutely darling she wore it for the first time at the airport. As we walked I wore her in the sling and within minutes she had pulled it off and dropped it. And then it was gone. It’s ridiculous how sad I am about that silly little hat. But if there’s anyone out there who has one and would like to sell it or knows where I can buy one I’ll be forever grateful.

Gosh a day of high emotion. Hello to Uncle Josh and welcome home. Ah I know how Immy is feeling. Sydney is unreal! Nothing in the UK compares or prepares you for such beautiful sights. I hope you do find another bonnet, Jodi. I know that feeling you are going through.. like only a mama can feel. xx

Jodi, I know exactly how you feel about the loss of Poet's little hat. I have experienced lost child-items this week in a big way! We moved to Noosa on Monday and since living here we have lost an 'uglydoll' called Babo, Jasper's new 'cool' plush toy, we havn't found it either…it broke my heart (pathetic?). Also, Jasper and George both have matching sippy bottles, good quality "kathmandu" ones, and for some reason we only have one now:( To make it even more upsetting, tonight George (a week off one) got up in his highchair and fell backwards onto the back of his head on the tile floor…I was so upset I couldn't even breathe, took him to the hospital with my hubby and our neighbour (who knew directions to Noosa hospital) and they calmed us (me) down and assured us that George looked like he was fine. Such heartbreak though! Have you experienced any accidents with your bubbas?

that's so sad about the hat. i know how you feel. i once bought my joshua a special hat in vermont and we lost it one of the first times he wore it. i know i shouldn't be upset over material items, but i was so sad. i just loved him in that little hat.

what wonderful travels for your brother and family!

Did you ring and see if anyone handed it in? I'd be devastated too, so sentimental about the precious things my babies wore. I hope it comes back to you!

Jodi, that first picture is ridiculous! The reflection on the buildings is stunning!

Reunions are the best… yay for uncle and aunty time!

…and I recall Anna Rummey's BB wearing that hat (and losing it too)! Maybe Rosie has outgrown it and you could buy/borrow? xx

Hello Jodi, I've been follwoing your blog for a short time and love your pictures and entries. I did inquire around the web and found the following link for a possible close match for your daughter's lost hat:

I know it's not the same collection but it may be close. I look forward to many more of your beautiful entries.

"My messy room" in sydney's summer hill was selling the most delicious reversible old-fashioned bonnets last year. The store is on-line but the owner might be happy to source you one.

Jodie, I am an American mom of two little boys and I just moved temporarily to Sydney. I have been enjoying your blog, and I adore your photos. I have pinned a few to my pinterest boards to share with the rest of the world. I have recently started my own blog and I look to yours for inspiration. Thank you. I also commiserate with you about losing the hat. Sometimes those things, those first things, mean so much to we moms. It makes no sense. It just is. Good luck finding your replacement.
