the sling diaries: a Sakura Bloom photo project

I am thrilled to be one of 13 bloggers chosen to take part in the Sakura Bloom Sling Diaries. Once a month for the next six months I’ll be posting a photo diary of babywearing – kanga and roo style, me and Poet. Each month will be inspired by a different theme; the first month is ‘love’. The judges’ favourite photo from each entry will be posted on the Sakura Bloom pinterest page and, at the end of the competition, a favourite “Sling Diary” will be chosen.
Over the six entries I’ll be reflecting on my babywearing experience with Che and, of course, living the experience with Poet. It’s pretty special ‘wearing’ my babies, cuddling them close, having them near, chatting as we walk. Extending the oneness of muma and baby for just that little bit longer. Of course, there’s something completely desirable about having two free hands too – let’s not forget the practicalities!
Leigh from Marvelous Kiddo (who could be birthing her third babe as I type!) will be introducing the 13 bloggers sometime today and launching a Sakura Bloom giveaway. Head over there to ‘meet’ the mumas and babies.
Rather fortuitously I’ll be spending time with both Tim and Luisa in the next few weeks…I can’t wait to see what they capture.
Tim took these photos when Poet was a hairy little six-week-old bubaloo. I wear the essential linen sling in organic raven/maple.

What gorgeous photos! Babywearing is such a special experience. Nothing comes close to the feeling of having your baby so close to you, feeling their heart beating against yours and breathing in the sweet smell of their hair. I will have to check out the blogs, they sound right up my street x

Congratulations Jodi, that all sounds very exciting and I look forward to seeing the diary. I have loved wearing all my babes and holding them close for as long as I can. It is where they belong.

I love this idea. I want a Sakura Bloom so badly, but haven't been able to shell out the money for it quite yet. Soon!

    Beautiful post, as always.

I actually bought this Sakura Bloom sling before I was asked to be involved in the project….so, whilst it may seem like I'm biased this is by the far the most comfortable, easy to use and beautiful sling I've ever had (and I've used about 5 brands so far) x

Beautiful photos. I just adore babywearing. I'm really quite sad that my 20 month old son seems to no longer want to be worn. We had so many wonderful adventures together with him cuddled up close to me. I would absolutely love a Sakura Bloom sling and think I will need to splash out on one for the next bub.

Here's a recent blog post I wrote on babywearing in case you're interested:

I absolutely adored babywearing with my kids and wished I would have had more of a variety of wraps and slings and carriers. I wore them constantly and miss it so much. Adore these photos of you and your little one.

Congratulations Jodi! I can imagine how beautiful your images will be. Will look forward to following along…

I also bought a Sakura Bloom when I was pregnant (funnily enough, I was encouraged by A Cup of Jo in the previous Sling Diaries), and used it plenty when Saskia was small, but haven't quite grasped the front-facing carry. We also have a Manduca which is great for longer periods of time, but I miss the simple, elegant look of the Sakura. Any tips so I can get it back into use?!

Ok…I basically had poet sitting in a cross-legged position and placed her in the sling – the fabric going from the front of her chest, under her bum, and up to the back of her neck. She usually stuck one little arm out and kept the other tucked in. She was only in this position for a little while as she had quite good head control early on so I started wearing her on my hip.

I find that you need to tighten the back and front of the fabric – wear it really tight so you and baby feel secure.

I hope this makes sense! x

thanks lady! will give it a go…and might even try the hip carry soon (that sounds right up the little one's alley)…so many people commented on how beautiful the Sakura was when I wore it (and I felt so feminine! is that a funny thing to say?!) x
