wintry
Four years ago on the Queen’s birthday long weekend our seaside suburb was lashed by torrential rain and the wildest of winds. Daniel and I had just moved into this house, I was six months pregnant with Che and we didn’t own a heater. Not that the heater would have made much difference because we were without power for three days. I remember sitting on the couch, watching the fifty-year-old gums sway and bend, wishing I could make myself a big bowl of pasta.
This weekend hasn’t been quite so bad. We still have power, we have the warmth of a heater and a well-stocked fridge and pantry. But the rain has been persistent, keeping us indoors and rugged up. Our street is the perfect representation of our winter; wet, mossy, gradually becoming more bare. And I wish I could venture out into it, but the thought of getting soaked and coming home with muddy shoes (if I owned a pair of Hunters it would be a different story) isn’t so appealing.
So while the wind howls and the clouds loom I’ll watch from the window and hope that soon the sun will return.

This weather is so boring! We had a night here last night slightly reminiscent of your weekend four years ago (on a much smaller scale) – our upstairs neighbour overflowed his bath, short circuiting our power board. No lights. No hot water. No heating! Lucky we had gas so we were able to fry up some food and eat it by candlelight. And our powerpoints are back on today so we have heat again. Still waiting for the lights but that's ok. Let's hope for some sunshine soon! Kellie xx

we have had one of those lovely long weekends with my M and our little respite foster girl Bessie, we have done lots of easy paced family stuff….you know 'making the heart and soul feel nourished' kind of stuff. I think everyone needs to make time for this….it is what truly feeds us, TK xx

I remember those storms, i was so frustrated as i had no power for 5 days and just a couple of houses up the road i could see lights on in everyones homes!I was having to get ready for work by candlelight which isn't as romantic as it sounds. It is good weather for cuddling up to loved ones though.

on that very same weekend I was stranded in a school hall with about 500 screaming kids (the very same kids I spent the term teaching), no power and a flooded town. Many selfless teachers slept in that school hall- i however, did not.
we are blessed to live in such a beautiful place, Daniel even ventured over here this evening with a beautiful gift.

The weekend was no where near as wild as way back then. The irony, at our house and along our street, is that a main burst and we had no water in the house. Plenty outside.

Thank you Jodi for reminding me about taht time. Time has flown indeed. We were living in a beach shack in Patonga then and trapped in our little enclave with big trees lying across the road, and also had no power. Thank goodness for campstoves and the radio.
It is good to know that this current deluge will pass and the sun will shine again.
